It would appear that the final phase of Google’s ascension to power is coming to pass. Google and Virgin Mobile have allied, in a group called Virgle, to colonize the red planet. Over the next century, the group will do the necessary planning and building to start a proper colony. You can read about it on Google’s page.

Of course, considering it’s 4/1/08, April Fool’s day, I’d wager it’s not quite time for Google’s ascension to a planetary power. But hey, that won’t stop you from joining the project as a colonist, will it?
