This is one of a few techniques, and currently my favorite, for making a three-dimensional grid in Photoshop. It is simple, and quicker than most ways of doing this.

You may see the end result featured in “Core IV Angel”, on my deviantart page:

  1. Start with a blank layer or document, with whatever color you want.
  2. Set your foreground and background colors to the colors of the grid and it’s background. I recommend using contrasting colors, but it works with any two (be creative!).
  3. Filter->Render->Fibers (Settings 64 and 64, this forms some material to work with)
  4. Filter->Blur->Motion Blur (Settings 999, -90 or 90 degrees, this transforms our material into lines)
  5. Duplicate Layer (Ctrl+J)
  6. Filter->Distort->Polar Coordinates (Rectangular To Polar)
  7. Layer Style->Lighten (Or Darken, if you’re using dark on light colors - toy with the style!)
  8. Enjoy your grid!
