Firefox Customization

I’ve been using IE7 since Vista came out, because it was nigh impervious to attack, but a few months after Vista went RTM it again went the way of IE6. Needing a safe browser again, I turned to Firefox. I typically don’t use Firefox, due to personal preference, but this time decided to check out Firefox Customization.
With themes, the terrifyingly ugly bluish color goes away (or gets worse, depending on your choice of themes :D), etc.
I am currently running iFox Smooth…

That was a few weeks ago, but today I decided to check out the extensions/addons that I’ve heard Firefox fanboys screaming about for ages, and was actually surprised to find a few good ones. I am actually posting this to my blog via an addon known as “ScribeFire”, which will store login information to a blog so that you can post from Firefox without having to log in, etc. I think it’ll make me post more often. It is also making it very easy to shove pictures into my posts via drag’n'drop and removal of links/excess HTML.

I found a new download status bar for Firefox, which removes the (IMO) terrible download manager for an integrated bar at the bottom of the browser, that can be further customized to your tastes. I hated the download manager box popping up all the time, and not at least going away when it is finished like IE’s downloads can. This fixed that for me. (Ironically, as I post this, it turns out that someone was aggravated with the download manager’s persistence as well and created an “auto-shut-down-the-download-manager-when-done” plugin, lol. The below link is the status bar plugin though, in case I’ve confused you.)

Finally there’s Fasterfox. This addon truly impressed me by taking the average Firefox browser to the next-gen level and pushing past RFC restrictions for speed’s sake. It multithreads your downloads, among many other things to speed up page and download loading.

Enjoy, and perhaps more people will see that with plugins, Firefox actually is better.
