Conflict: Denied Ops - Review

Conflict: Denied Ops. Let’s start with the name, shall we? “Conflict” - this much makes sense. War is a conflict and this game is about war. “Denied Ops” - Okay, this is where they got me. “Ops” refers to “Operations”, typically of a covert nature. If they were “Denied”, however, then what the hell is the game about? This title makes no bloody sense, which you can take as an indication of the quality of the rest of the game.
There were two selling points for this game: “fully destructible environments” and squad-based switching combat.

The squad-based combat consists of two people, at least to begin with. I was too put off by the terrible game to continue from the first level, however, so I could be wrong. Either way it’s more of an irritation than a feature, since if one man dies you have to revive him within two minutes or lose, starting over from *PREDEFINED SAVE POINTS* (which kills just about any game).
You may have noticed that I put “fully destructible environments” in quotes. This is because they are hardly destructible. You can shoot barrels, and they randomly fly up and down before exploding, which makes no sense, physically. A very small number of wooden objects and doors splinter away in chunks, which is crappy. If everything had this effect, as we were all led to believe, this wouldn’t be a bad method. However, these are the only objects that can be destroyed. I give them credit, however, there are approximately six pieces of stone buildings that can be destroyed, and have to be, since enemies stand in them. This is limiting, to say the least, and expecting a fully destructible world, I was appalled.
Just as icing on the cake, I thought I’d try the multiplayer. You can’t. Nobody is playing it because it’s total crap. You also can’t start a game by yourself, so I had no chance to take a peek. I’d post pictures, but it’s really unnecessary, just search Youtube for the game title and you’ll see what covers the few destructible objects. Anything they don’t destroy in that video is unbreakable - I kid you not.
Don’t buy this - it would encourage them. I only wish I could return games through Steam.
